His obituary will mention a line from an unpublished autobiography in which he described himself as "a man who walked a lonely street." Songwriters Tommy Durden and Mae Boren Axton turn that phrase into an Elvis Presley hit, "Heartbreak Hotel"

When Elvis Presley stops at a Memphis gas station, fans gather around his car while an attendant checks the engine. Station owner Edd Hopper is angered by the crowd and pops Presley in the head. Presley, in turn, gives Hopper a black eye. Hopper and an employee are fined for assault. Charges against Presley are ultimately dropped
