    Marshall Jones performs a show in Akron, which is caught by Bradley Kincaid. In short order, Kincaid brings Jones to Boston to perform on radio station WBZ, where he's renamed "Grandpa" Jones

    Steel guitarist Leon McAuliffe leaves The Light Crust Doughboys to join Bob Wills' Texas Playboys in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the process, he gets a raise from less than $10-a-week to $30. On KVOO that night, McAuliffe debuts "Steel Guitar Rag"

    Guitarist Zeke Campbell is invited to join the western swing band The Light Crust Doughboys. He plays on the 1938 recording "Pussy, Pussy, Pussy," listed among country's 500 greatest all-time singles in the 2003 Country Music Foundation book "Heartaches By The Number"

    Banjo player and guitarist Marvin Montgomery joins The Light Crust Doughboys. During his tenure with the western swing band, he writes "Pussy, Pussy, Pussy," ranked among country's all-time greatest singles in a Country Music Foundation book

    The Monroe Brothers, Bill and Charlie, hold their first recording session in Charlotte, North Carolina. Among the day's 10 songs: "My Long Journey Home," "What Would You Give In Exchange?" and "Nine Pound Hammer Is Too Heavy"
