    Chet Atkins becomes the manager of RCA's Nashville operations when Steve Sholes is appointed to run the label's pop division

    Fred Foster founds Monument Records in Baltimore, Maryland. Later relocating in Nashville, the label goes on to represent such acts as Roy Orbison, Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton, Billy Swan and, in the 1990s, The Dixie Chicks. Monument is reactivated in 2017, launching Walker Hayes

    Billboard reports RCA Victor hired Jim Foglesong as a producer in New York, ending a 10-year run with Columbia and Epic. Foglesong is destined to join the Country Music Hall of Fame after a move to Nashville, where he works with Roy Clark, Barbara Mandrell and Garth Brooks
