Richard Sterban, of The Oak Ridge Boys, is born in Camden, New Jersey. He provides the distinctive bass vocal presence on such hits as "Elvira," "Bobbie Sue" and "Love Song" after joining the group in 1972. The Oaks are inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2015

Duane Allen is born in Taylortown, Texas. In 1966, he joins The Oak Ridge Boys, who successfully convert 11 years later from gospel music to country. Their version of "Elvira" sells 2 million copies, as they register more than 30 Top 10 hits through 1991, joining the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2015

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Otha Young is born in Tulare, California. A musical compadre of Juice Newton, he takes part in many of her recordings and writes "The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known)" and The Carpenters' "Sweet, Sweet Thing"

Steel guitar player Sonny Garrish is born in Fairplay, Maryland. His credits include recordings by The Judds, Reba McEntire, Don Williams, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Tracy Lawrence, among others

R&B songwriter/producer Freddie Perren is born in Jersey City, New Jersey. A couple of his songs are remade as country hits: "I Will Survive," by Billie Jo Spears; and "Reunited," by Louise Mandrell & R.C. Bannon

Bass player Robert "Tarp" Tarrant is born in Adel, Georgia. He becomes a member of Jerry Lee Lewis' band, where he gains a certain infamy. He's among three band members arrested for narcotics in 1965, and he does time for robbing a 7-11

Mirriam Johnson is born in Phoenix. She's better known as Jessi Colter, the wife of Waylon Jennings and the singer of "I'm Not Lisa"

Drummer Willie Cantu is born in Corpus Christi, Texas. He joins Buck Owens' Buckaroos, laying down the backbeat for such hits as "I've Got A Tiger By The Tail," "Buckaroo" and "Waitin' In Your Welfare Line"

Songwriter Wayne Carson is born in Denver. He pens Willie Nelson's "Always On My Mind," Gary Stewart's "She's Actin' Single (I'm Drinkin' Doubles)," Conway Twitty's "The Clown" and The Box Tops' "The Letter"

Pop songwriter Tom Bahler is born in Los Angeles. He writes Cher's "Living In A House Divided" and Michael Jackson's "She's Out Of My Life." Johnny Duncan & Janie Fricke do a country version of the latter song, re-titling it "He's Out Of My Life"
