Tom T. Hall will have a country hit with Mercer's song "P.S. I Love You"

    Texas Playboys fiddler Jesse Ashlock dies in Austin, Texas. An original member of Bob Wills' western swing band, he played on such classics as "New San Antonio Rose," "Cherokee Maiden," "Ida Red" and "Right Or Wrong"

    Blues man Jimmy Reed dies of an epileptic seizure while on tour in Oakland, California. His 1961 recording "Bright Lights, Big City" became a country hit after Sonny James recorded it in 1971

    Vocalist and banjo player Buell Kazee dies of a heart attack in Winchester, Kentucky. He recorded around 50 numbers for Brunswick during the late-1920s. Three of them appeared in the landmark album "Anthology Of American Folk Music"
