    J.L. Frank dies in a Detroit hotel room, where he's been laid up with strep throat. Referred to as the "Flo Ziegfeld of country music," he was the first major promoter and manager in the genre, working with Pee Wee King, Roy Acuff and Minnie Pearl in a career that will place him in the Country Music Hall of Fame

    Fred Rose dies in Nashville of a heart attack. Rose founded Acuff-Rose Publishing with Roy Acuff, produced Hank Williams and wrote "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain." He is one of the first inductees in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame

    Harry Warner dies in Hollywood, California. With three siblings, he created Warner Bros. Pictures, a major film company that would also start a record label, which plays a hand in the careers of Randy Travis, Faith Hill and Emmylou Harris, among others
    Jan 19, 1960
    Ralph Sylvester Peer dies in Hollywood. Peer coined the phrase "hillbilly music" and produced the first recordings of Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family. He is inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1984
